Ukrainian Egg Design: Let’s Make Pysanky

Creative & Culinary Arts -
fall 23 winter 24

This workshop will provide an opportunity for you to learn the art of Pysanky from a native Ukrainian, receive an abundance of information about the history, the meaning of the symbols, and create your own beautiful designs or Pysanka in the traditional wax-resist method using real chicken eggs, with a special instrument called a "kistka", beeswax, and color dyes.  Participants will learn the process, history, and meaning of the colors and symbols of this Ukrainian art.  Participants may choose to use a traditional Ukrainian pattern, or create one of your own. No previous experience is required. All materials are prepared in advance(blown-out eggs), and will be provided.

Alona Popova

Alona is Ukrainian and Pysankarstvo (the art of making pysanky) came into her life as a hobby that turned into her absolute love. For almost a decade she has been creating pysanky on a weekly basis and in 2022 started to offer masterclasses. Alona would love to share her knowledge with you and introduce you to this centuries-old Ukrainian tradition.
