Badminton
Badminton is the most popular and fastest racquet sport! It’s a fast, fun and social game that can be played and enjoyed by people of all ages. If you have never played badminton before, you will quickly learn the basics and join other experienced players in 12 weeks of exciting games! If you are looking for a great way to have fun while getting in shape, this is the place to be! Bring your racquet and we will provide the birdies.

Sudbury Valley New Horizons Music: Adult Concert Band and String Ensemble
Winter/Spring 2025 Adult Concert Band & String Ensemble Don’t just LISTEN to the music, PLAY!! Join our adult concert band or string ensemble and experience the joy of making instrumental music with others. Haven’t played your trumpet (flute, clarinet, violin, cello…) in 30 years? We have some members who came back to their instruments after 50, 60 and even 70 years! Never played an instrument? We’ll help you figure out how to get started, get connected with a teacher, and in a few weeks sit in with our group. It is never too late; over half of our members started their instruments as adults! Our members range in age from 20-something to 90-something, and from beginner/novice to quite advanced in playing ability — all are welcome! No auditions required. Sudbury Valley New Horizons Music is an organization for all adults, no matter the skill level, who love music and want to be involved in playing music with others in a relaxed, non-competitive environment. Our Winter/Spring session for our band and string ensemble begins on January 8 , and continues through April 30, 2025. New members can join at any time. Backyard Birdsong Identification
Nature: Birds, Bees and Guided Walks
Have you ever wondered if that “tweet” is from a cardinal or a chickadee? Join this class to learn the language spoken by our feathered friends. Our birding expert, Michele Grzenda, will start with a few basic bird songs as a reference, then add to your repertoire with repetition and practice. You’ll learn the types of sound birds make and why they make them, and explore common bird songs heard in MA. Each class will focus on approximately 10-15 different birds.

Celebration Art: Zentangle for Spring Holidays
Creative & Culinary Arts
Using the Zentangle Method we will create art for three holidays: Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, and May Day. We’ll incorporate color with markers, watercolor, or colored pencil, to see how different applications of color affect the overall look of hand-drawn Zentangle. Some experience with the Zentangle method will be helpful, but not required. All sessions are recorded for later viewing, you do not need to be present at the live session to participate. Materials: Paper (watercolor paper, bristol paper, card stock, drawing paper, anything fairly smooth) or Zentangle® brand tile 3.5” x 3.5 “ or larger Pencil, regular No. 2 Pen that writes nicely (Micron brand are wonderful), in black and other colors Tortillon/blending stump (alternatively a small piece of soft paper rolled to a point will work, or in a pinch a cotton swab) Colored markers (I use alcohol ink markers) Colored pencils (I use Prismacolor) Watercolor paint, or watercolor pencils, and a brush Gold Gel pen White Gel pen White chalk pencil (General’s brand is very good)

Cold-Process Soap - Two Part Class
Creative & Culinary Arts
Calling all Soapers!! Make your own cold-process soap. This is a "hands-on” class. You will learn the basics about cold process soapmaking. Each participant will choose from a variety of scents and additives (all natural) to create a high-quality, long-lasting soap. This class will provide you with all the knowledge and skills needed to craft your own soap. DAY 1: 6:30-8:00. DAY 2: 6:30-6:45 On day 1 you will make your soap with your choice of scents (Lavender, Lavender Peppermint, Peppermint, Tea Tree, citrus or no scent) and your choice of additives (GF oatmeal, red clay, coffee grounds=kitchen soap or no additive). On day 2, you will unmold your soap and cut it into bars. All materials and worksheets will be provided. Please do not wear your best clothing. An apron and/or an old shirt will be the best option. Please let the instructor know if you have any skin allergies or allergies to essential oils. Women in their first trimester of pregnancy should not take this class. Handmade soaps are an excellent gift or an awesome gift to yourself!

How does the November 2015 change in the rules affect me? How can I make sure I am taking advantage of available spousal, survivor or divorced benefits? How much of my Social Security will be subject to income tax? What potential changes are in store for Social Security and how might they affect my claiming decision? Early Morning Bird Exploration
Nature: Birds, Bees and Guided Walks
Join Luke Faust, Associate Member of the Sudbury Conservation Commission, for an early morning walk at Davis Farm and Field in Sudbury to discover the birds that frequent the varied habitats contained within these conservation areas. With a mix of meadows, wetlands, and forests, Davis Farm and Field is home to an inordinate number of avian species. Learn various field identification techniques to identify these species by sight as well as sound. All levels and experience welcome. Bring binoculars. Ample parking is available at Davis Field, 195 North Road, Sudbury.

Have you ever wanted to learn how to fish? Now’s your chance, let the MassWildlife Angler Education Program be your guide. We’ll have equipment on hand for use, as well as terminal tackle, and live bait. You’ll learn the basics, from casting out to baiting up, and the best part - you’ll actually be able to fish. So come try your hand at this great pastime, guaranteed to catch some fun! Pre-registration is required. Please note: This is NOT a kid’s program. It is a program for people of all ages that want to learn how to fish. If you are 15 and younger you must be accompanied by an adult. Please complete ONE (1) registration per family (up to 5 people).

Farm Table to Brunch Tour - Codman Community Farms

For the most local brunch possible, come to the farm to collect your own eggs and veggies and then enjoy a delicious brunch prepared by Codman’s Chef Tilli. This is a combination walking tour of the farm, hayride to egg collection, vegetable harvest and finally brunch. We’ll start by harvesting veggies in our no-till market garden and then boarding a hay wagon to our laying hen pasture to collect freshly laid eggs. You’ll get hands-on experience and the chance to ask lots of questions and see how we produce our delicious food up close. Class includes all materials needed. Comfortable walking shoes and sun hats are encouraged.

This American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) course covers CPR, AED, First Aid, Medical/Injury Emergencies, Allergies, Epipens and Asthma. Participants receive 2-year ASHI certification in Pediatric First Aid and Adult and Pediatric CPR and AED use. This class is suitable for day-care providers, grandparents, coaches, scout leaders and parents. Ages 12 and up. No discounts.
