Sudbury Valley New Horizons Music: Adult Concert Band and String Ensemble
Don’t just LISTEN to the music, PLAY!! Join our adult concert band or string ensemble and experience the joy of making instrumental music with others. Haven’t played your trumpet (flute, clarinet, violin, cello…) in 30 years? We have some members who came back to their instruments after 50 and 60 and even 70 years! Never played an instrument? We’ll help you figure out how to get started, get connected with a teacher, and in a few weeks sit in with our group. It is never too late; over half of our members started their instruments as adults! Our members range in age from 20-something to 90-something, and from beginner/novice to quite advanced in playing ability — all are welcome!Sudbury Valley New Horizons Music is an organization for all adults, no matter the skill level, who love music and want to be involved in playing music with others in a relaxed, non-competitive environment. For more information, visit our website, www.svnhm.org, or call Diane Muffitt, 978-261-5065. (New members please contact Diane before registering.) Season runs from 9/18/24 through 12/18/24. No rehearsal 10/2, 11/20 (moved to Monday 11/18 beginning at 7:30 pm), 11/27 and 12/11.CONCERT INFORMATION: 12/7 afternoon at L-S

Many parents of 9th and 10th graders want to know what lies ahead in the college planning and admissions process. The goal of this session is not to add stress, but to help you understand the process, expectations and timing so your student can make smart decisions now that will keep options open for later. This session will address how colleges evaluate applicants, academic planning during high school, extracurricular and summer activities, considerations for student-athletes, when to take standardized tests and how to prepare, and why sophomore year is important to financial aid. SAT: Math Review
College & Test Prep
The goal of this course is to practice the types of questions that will be asked on the SAT and practice test-taking strategies designed to raise students' scores. Students will learn about time management and the benefits of taking an educated guess. Last, students will review skills learned in prior or current math classes and the best way to approach the exam based on their individual skills. As students become more familiar with the test and practice test-taking strategies, their confidence and scores are sure to grow! Students MUST respond to the survey sent in the week prior to taking the course in order to incorporate appropriate practice problems in the class - their intended test-taking dates will inform the level of paper-based and/ or computer-based practice problems used in the class. Additionally, students should bring a computer to each class with the SAT Bluebook Application downloaded prior to the first class, and bring the graphing calculator they will use on test day.

SAT: Verbal Review
College & Test Prep
The SAT asks students to use analytical skills they have been developing throughout high school to tackle sections that are becoming increasingly academic (and less tricky). In this 5-week course, students will learn and practice strategies to conquer the reading and language sections of the test. The final week will be a practice test. As students become more comfortable with each section of the SAT format, their confidence will increase and so will their scores!
