Holiday Ukrainian Egg Design (Pysanky)Creative & Culinary ArtsPysankarstvo is the process of creating a pattern on a real, blown-out chicken egg with a special instrument "kistka", beeswax, and color dyes. Participants will learn the process, history, and meaning of the colors and symbols of this Ukrainian art. Participants may choose to use a traditional Ukrainian pattern, or create one of their own. This workshop provides the opportunity to learn the art of Pysankarstvo from a native Ukrainian, receive an abundance of information about the history, meaning, and importance of this art, and to create your own beautiful Pysanka to display in your home or give as a gift. Jewelry Basics - Viking Knit TechniqueCreative & Culinary ArtsViking Knitting refers to an ancient technique of circular wire weaving that forms a loop and then is stretched. It's not knitting the way we usually think of it (using two needles) but actually entails weaving sculptural chains from fine-gauge metal wire. This class includes all materials, step by step instructions, and use of tools. Step by step instructions for creating Viking knit: preparation of wire, creating wire loops, correct tension on wire, adding more wire, using a draw plate, attaching the endings and final assembly. Students will receive a kit to take home with tools to create more Viking knit jewelry.Spring 2023

Knitting: Brioche BasicsCreative & Culinary ArtsBrioche knitting has a wonderful “squishy” fabric and, when finished, is reversible. Learn the basics of this textured technique, including reading brioche patterns, how to count rows/stitches, tips for keeping your knitting on track, and identifying and fixing common Brioche mistakes. This is a great class for your first brioche knitting project or for those who have knit brioche and are looking to work the 2 color stitch flat as a scarf. Diane will help guide you using the two-at-a-time technique, casting on both socks at once. Students will knit the sock feet/legs on their own. We will come back together to learn how to work the heel and cast off for a stretch cuff for toe up, close up the toe using Kitchener for cuff down.
