Cold-Process Soap - Two Part Class
Calling all Soapers!! Make your own cold-process soap. This is a "hands-on” class. You will learn the basics about cold process soapmaking. Each participant will choose from a variety of scents and additives (all natural) to create a high-quality, long-lasting soap. This class will provide you with all the knowledge and skills needed to craft your own soap. DAY 1: 6:30-8:00; DAY 2: 6:30-6:45On Day 1 you will make your soap with your choice of scents (Lavender, Lavender Peppermint, Peppermint, Tea Tree, citrus or no scent) and your choice of additives (GF oatmeal, red clay, coffee grounds=kitchen soap or no additive). On Day 2, you will unmold your soap and cut it into bars.All materials and worksheets will be provided. Please do not wear your best clothing. An apron and/or an old shirt will be the best option. Please let the instructor know if you have any skin allergies or allergies to essential oils. Women in their first trimester of pregnancy should not take this class.Handmade soaps are an excellent gift or an awesome gift to yourself!

Rise & Shine Yoga with Kelly
Start your weekends off right with Rise & Shine Yoga. This 8-week, one-hour class combines yin-style stretching and vinyasa flow. The class guides you through smooth, safe movements purposefully designed to loosen up those tight muscles, melt away stress, and rejuvenate your body. Participants do not need prior yoga experience. Please bring your own mat. Yoga blocks are highly recommended and will be provided. This class takes place in-person with the option to join the class remotely on Google Meets.

Spring Guided Walks: Cow Common, Wayland and Memorial Forest, Sudbury

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE DATES HAVE CHANGED AND ARE DIFFERENT FROM THE BROCHURE. SESSION 1: April 5 and April 12; SESSION 2: April 7 and April 14 Explore Cow Common, conservation land owned by the Town of Wayland, with its extensive open meadows, lowland forests dominated by red maple, and stretches of floodplain habitats on the banks of the Sudbury River. Our walks will explore the flora and fauna of this scenic landscape as winter transitions to spring. Traverse Memorial Forest, a property of the Sudbury Valley Trustees and the Town of Marlborough, with hundreds of acres of pine and oak forests, a unique stand of pitch pines on very dry soil, and a variety of wetland habitats. Our walks will explore signs of early spring on this expansive and ecologically diverse natural landscape.

Woodcock Walk
Outdoor Pursuits
Enter the realm of the incredible American woodcock. Learn about its unique mating dance and habitat requirements as we enjoy a beautiful spring sunset walk. Guided by our bird expert, we'll listen and look for the woodcock's flight with helpful hints from recordings, photographs, and a reading from Sand County Almanac. We'll hike at a gentle pace about a mile from the parking lot to the woodcock display area, taking note of the many plant and animal species we encounter along the way. Note: Bring a pair of binoculars, flashlight, bug spray, and a field guide, if you have one. We'll go in light rain, so wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather. Directions emailed to registered students.

Wildflowers of Spring and Summer

Co-Sponsored by Sudbury Conservation Commission, Sudbury Valley Trustees & Friends of the Assabet River, Oxbow and Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuges. This online class will introduce you to the wild beauties blooming in the woods, wetlands and meadows of Sudbury, Assabet and Concord watershed. Learn about early spring’s marsh marigolds and late spring’s lady slipper orchids. The humid summer brings wild lilies, milkweed and cardinal flowers. Make the most of your time outdoors by recognizing wildflowers, their habitats and pollinators. You will get tips on wildflower identification guides and best locations to observe these flowers.

Take a guided walk with Neela de Zoysa to Weir Hill at Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge and Tippling Rock Trail. No pets for these organized walks please. However, we invite you to return with your pets another time to town conservation lands and Sudbury Valley Trustees lands that allow pets. No pets are permitted on National Wildlife Refuges.

Early Morning Bird Exploration

Join Luke Faust, Member of the Sudbury Conservation Commission, for an early morning walk at Davis Farm and Field in Sudbury to discover the birds that frequent the varied habitats contained within these conservation areas. With a mix of meadows, wetlands, and forests, Davis Farm and Field is home to an inordinate number of avian species. Learn various field identification techniques to identify these species by sight as well as sound. All levels and experience welcome. Bring binoculars. Ample parking is available at Davis Field, 195 North Road, Sudbury.

Have you ever wanted to learn how to fish? Now’s your chance, let the MassWildlife Angler Education Program be your guide. We’ll have equipment on hand for use, as well as terminal tackle, and live bait. You’ll learn the basics, from casting out to baiting up, and the best part - you’ll actually be able to fish. So come try your hand at this great pastime, guaranteed to catch some fun! Pre-registration is required. Please note: This is NOT a kid’s program. It is a program for people of all ages that want to learn how to fish. If you are 15 and younger you must be accompanied by an adult. Please complete ONE (1) registration per family (up to 5 people).

Backyard Birdsong Identification

Have you ever wondered if that “tweet” is from a cardinal or a chickadee? Join this two-night class to learn the language spoken by our feathered friends. Our birding expert, Michele Grzenda, will start with a few basic bird songs as a reference, then add to your repertoire with repetition and practice. You’ll learn the types of sound birds make and why they make them, and explore common bird songs heard in MA. Each class will focus on approximately 10-15 different birds.

Michele Grzenda, Naturalist, will point out various field identification techniques by sight and sound. This easy-to-moderate walk is designed for beginner and intermediate bird watchers. While we can never guarantee that you'll see a particular species, you'll enjoy getting outside and exploring a local area.
