Have you ever wondered if that “tweet” is from a cardinal or a chickadee? Join this class to learn the language spoken by our feathered friends. Our birding expert, Michele Grzenda, will start with a few basic bird songs as a reference, then add to your repertoire with repetition and practice. You’ll learn the types of sound birds make and why they make them, and explore common bird songs heard in MA. Each class will focus on approximately 10-15 different birds.

Online Beginner German: Whether you're preparing for travel, reconnecting with your roots, or simply expanding your horizons, this beginner German class is the perfect place to start. Designedespecially for adult learners, the course offers a relaxed, supportive environment. Led by a native German speaker and experienced instructor, this class combines structured lessons with real-life conversation practice. You’ll learn essential vocabulary, foundational grammar, and useful phrases to navigate everyday situations—from ordering a coffee to making small talk with ease. At Fun World Language Academy, we believe language learning should be both useful and enjoyable. Our engaging approach includes a mix of textbook learning andenrichment materials, with cultural insights woven throughout to make every session memorable. Join us for a 2-hour Spring Candle Making Workshop where students will learn the basics of candle making while creating a decorative candle to take home. Participants will melt and color wax, add fragrance once the wax is fully melted, wick and fill containers, and use molds to create spring-inspired wax decorations. The class offers step-by-step instruction in a relaxed, creative environment and is perfect for beginners. The workshop concludes with assembling the final candle, arranging molded wax decorations, and applying finishing touches to create a unique, spring-themed decorative piece. All materials are provided, and each student will leave with a finished, custom candle and the confidence to continue candle making at home.

This class will teach the natural history of many species of our local wildlife and examine the various conflicts involving human and wildlife interaction. Things like ethical decision-making and humane strategies to achieve peaceful coexistence with wildlife will be explored.

Have you always wanted to compost but don’t know where to begin? If so, this class is for you! Join us at Codman Community Farms in Lincoln to learn all about composting - the benefits, how to begin the process and how to avoid common mistakes. This class will include a brief overview of our working farm and how we process waste - you’ll leave feeling a confident composter!

Have you ever wanted to learn how to fish? Now’s your chance, let the MassWildlife Angler Education Program be your guide. We’ll have equipment on hand for use, as well as terminal tackle, and live bait. You’ll learn the basics, from casting out to baiting up, and the best part - you’ll actually be able to fish. So come try your hand at this great pastime, guaranteed to catch some fun! Pre-registration is required. Please note: This is NOT a kid’s program. It is a program for people of all ages that want to learn how to fish. If you are 15 and younger you must be accompanied by an adult. Please complete ONE (1) registration per family (up to 5 people).

Gowing's Swamp is one of Thoreau's beloved landscapes, often referenced in his writings. Experience the subtle colors of bog plants in the Spring, the landscape sculpted by glaciers and interesting historical details on a walk with botanist Neela de Zoysa. Participants will meet at the Ripley Playscape, Concord.

Michele Grzenda, Naturalist, will point out various field identification techniques by sight and sound. This easy-to-moderate walk is designed for beginner and intermediate bird watchers. While we can never guarantee that you'll see a particular species, you'll enjoy getting outside and exploring a local area. No binoculars? No problem - Michele has a few pairs for students to borrow.
