Pitfalls of Publishing

Writing and Humanities -
Fall 2024/Winter 2025

DATE CHANGE;  THIS CLASS WILL MEET OCTOBER 30.  Once your manuscript is finished, comes the next and often hardest step, getting your work published.  This two-session course with Leta Serafim will outline the various options available from writing query letters to agents and publishers to signing on with self-publishing companies like Ingram-Sparks. She will provide an overview of the industry today and give you her recommendations as to how best to negotiate this every changing field and avoid the expensive mistakes many first-time authors make.

Leta Serafim

Serafim is the author of the Greek Island Mystery series as well as the historical novel, To Look on Death No More, based on events in Greece during World War II. She also wrote Molly Saw a Bear, a picture book for children. A former journalist, she worked for the Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times Washington Bureau. She won the Eric Hoffer prize for her first book, The Devil Takes Half.
