Genealogy 101: Researching Your Family History
Join us at the Sudbury History Center and Museum in town center for a workshop on tips and tricks for genealogical research! Have you ever wanted to get started on your family tree? Stuck on researching a specific ancestor? A professional archivist will guide this workshop with helpful hints and answer any research questions. We will review useful online resources for information finding and have brief tutorials on searching for public records on websites such as Ancestry and FamilySearch, as well as the new Sudbury Historical Society Collections Online. We will also discuss how to best leverage the free resources available to you nearby in local archives, libraries, and museums. Bringing a laptop to the session is highly recommended, but not necessary. If you have already started your genealogical journey, be sure to bring your notes to the workshop for a more personalized experience.

We’ll help you figure out how to get started, get connected with a teacher, and in a few weeks, sit in with our group!Sudbury Valley New Horizons Band or Sudbury Valley New Horizons String Ensemble is your entrance to the world of instrumental music in a non-competitive and non-intimidating musical environment. SAT: Verbal Review
The SAT asks students to use analytical skills they have been developing throughout high school to tackle sections that are becoming increasingly academic (and less tricky). In this 5-week course, students will learn and practice strategies to conquer the reading and language sections of the test. The final week will be a practice test. As students become more comfortable with each section of the SAT format, their confidence will increase and so will their scores! The Official Digital SAT Study Guide by The College Board published August 29, 2023 ISBN number is 978-1457316708

SAT: Math Review
The goal of this course is to practice the types of questions that will be asked on the SAT and practice test-taking strategies designed to raise students' scores. Students will learn about time management and the benefits of taking an educated guess. Last, students will review skills learned in prior or current math classes and the best way to approach the exam based on their individual skills. As students become more familiar with the test and practice test-taking strategies, their confidence and scores are sure to grow! Students MUST respond to the survey sent in the week prior to taking the course in order to incorporate appropriate practice problems in the class - their intended test-taking dates will inform the level of paper-based and/ or computer-based practice problems used in the class. Additionally, students should bring a computer to each class with the SAT Bluebook Application downloaded prior to the first class, and bring the graphing calculator they will use on test day.

College Planning for High School Freshmen & Sophomores...It's too Early Isn't it?
Many parents of 9th and 10th graders want to know what lies ahead in the college planning and admissions process. The goal of this session is not to add stress, but to help you understand the process, expectations and timing so your student can make smart decisions now that will keep options open for later. This session will address how colleges evaluate applicants, academic planning during high school, extracurricular and summer activities, considerations for student-athletes, when to take standardized tests and how to prepare, and why sophomore year is important to financial aid. We’ll overview the college admissions roadmap and timeline so you know what’s ahead, and answer your questions. Pre-registration is required.
