Energy Efficient Home Renovations - Home Heating Options

Home Improvement -
FALL 25/26

Four consecutive classes in October on initiating energy efficient home renovations presented by Green Coaches from Lincoln's Green Energy CFREE Committee.  All eight coaches have extensive “green energy” renovation experience as consultants, contractors, and homeowners.

Participants may sign up for individual or for all four classes.

Home and Window Insulation: Michael Moodie, Nancy Selvage

Home Heating Options: Belinda Gingrich, Tom Longnecker

Energy Efficient Appliances: Belinda Gingrich, Nancy Selvage

Solar Panels: Scott Rodman, Edwin Tam

Belinda Gingrich: Heat Smart Alliance coach, Lincoln Green Energy Coach. Her renovations of her family’s 1953 Ranch House reduced her family’s carbon emissions by 91%. Tom Longnecker designed and built an energy-efficient home almost three decades ago.  After many small improvements, switching to geothermal heating and cooling has been the most exciting step towards completely electrifying the home and eliminating fossil fuel emissions. Michael Moodie got interested in energy-efficient homes during the gas crises of the 70s and has read widely and coached homeowners since. His home is 99% fossil-fuel-free. Scott Rodman is a longtime believer in solar and has commissioned several solar installations, each time adding new elements such as back-up batteries. His latest project is a new net-positive and passive home. The construction has been extensively documented, and the production and consumption data is being closely monitored. Scott generously shares his wealth of knowledge about the many options and paybacks for installing solar and for interfacing residential solar generation with the energy-hungry grid. Nancy Selvage designed and built a very energy efficient double-shelled home in the 80’s. Since moving to a 1960’s mid-century home in 2014, she has greatly improved its energy efficiency with insulation, window treatments, some new triple panes, hydronic solar, and a photovoltaic solar installation.
