Pie Dough Workshop at Codman Community Farms

Get holiday-ready with a cozy, hands-on evening at Codman Community Farms where you’ll learn how to make a flaky, all-purpose pie dough perfect for Thanksgiving pies, quiches, and galettes. The farm chef will guide you through mixing, rolling, and shaping techniques, and you’ll take home dough ready for your freezer. DATE CHANGE; THIS CLASS WILL MEET OCTOBER 30. Once your manuscript is finished, comes the next and often hardest step, getting your work published. This two-session course with Leta Serafim will outline the various options available from writing query letters to agents and publishers to signing on with self-publishing companies like Ingram-Sparks. She will provide an overview of the industry today and give you her recommendations as to how best to negotiate this every changing field and avoid the expensive mistakes many first-time authors make.

Private Music Lessons - Fall
Music Appreciation
Private music lessons enable participants to grow musically at an individual pace, study advanced techniques on their instruments and begin to express themselves through improvisation. Lessons are given in 8-week sessions in your choice of format: in-person or online. Lessons take place after school, or weekday evenings. Before registering, please send us an email at adult.ed@lsrhs.net to determine the availability of the instructor. There is a $39 administrative fee per each 8-week session. A portion of the administrative fee will be donated to L-S Friends of Music. No Senior/Staff Discount. We offer private music lessons in: Cello, Clarinet, Drum set, Euphonium, Flute, Guitar, Marimba, Oboe, Percussion, Piano, Saxophone, Song Writing, String Bass, Trombone, Trumpet, Tuba, Viola, Violin, Voice. Along with learning how to buy an income-generating rental property in this competitive market, we will discuss MA laws that every landlord needs to know to protect themselves. We review proven tips on being a thoughtful and respected landlord and financing and property maintenance costs.

The class will focus on the home buying process from beginning to end including your mortgage options, lawyer info and fees, the offer process and negotiating techniques, what you would expect to pay for closing costs, and what to look for at open houses.

Residential Addition 101

If you have been thinking of adding on to your house, but don’t know where to start, this one night class is for you! Nancy will give an overview of the design and construction process for residential additions and renovations. The class will review zoning and septic issues, programming, budgeting, whether to “move or stay”, the architectural process, contractor selection, permitting and what to expect during construction. Time will be allowed for questions about your specific project.

Rise & Shine Yoga with Kelly
Be Active
Start your weekends off right with Rise & Shine Yoga. This one-hour class combines deep stretching, muscle strengthening, balance, and vinyasa flow. The class guides you through smooth, safe movements purposefully designed to loosen up those tight muscles, melt away stress, and rejuvenate your body. Participants do not need prior yoga experience. Please bring your own mat. Yoga blocks are highly recommended and will be provided. Available in person or by Google Meet.

SAT: Verbal Review

The SAT asks students to use analytical skills they have been developing throughout high school to tackle sections that are becoming increasingly academic (and less tricky). In this 5-week course, students will learn and practice strategies to conquer the reading and language sections of the test. The final week will be a practice test. As students become more comfortable with each section of the SAT format, their confidence will increase and so will their scores! SAT: Math Review

The goal of this course is to practice the types of questions that will be asked on the SAT and practice test-taking strategies designed to raise students' scores. Students will learn about time management and the benefits of taking an educated guess. Last, students will review skills learned in prior or current math classes and the best way to approach the exam based on their individual skills. As students become more familiar with the test and practice test-taking strategies, their confidence and scores are sure to grow! Students MUST respond to the survey sent in the week prior to taking the course in order to incorporate appropriate practice problems in the class - their intended test-taking dates will inform the level of paper-based and/ or computer-based practice problems used in the class. Additionally, students should bring a computer to each class with the SAT Bluebook Application downloaded prior to the first class, and bring the graphing calculator they will use on test day.

Sugar Cookie Decorating

Learn the tips and tricks and how to create professional-looking cookies! Make royal icing and learn several decorating techniques including flooding and wet on wet designs. Using sugar cookies baked ahead of time, or store bought, we'll create puffed designs, patterns, and holiday designs. $12 additional fee to be paid to Adrienne at the class, which includes all decorating ingredients. Grown in several countries around the globe, the tea plant yields numerous varieties of teas, ranging from the commonly known black tea to the exotic white, yellow and pu-erh tea. Throughout history, the innocuous tea leaf has sparked world trade, united cultures and even started rebellions. In modern times, tea has become recognized for its health benefits and has become widely accepted as a symbol of peace and harmony. USCG: Boating Skills and Seamanship

This 12-week introductory course is for both sail and power boaters and includes instruction on safety afloat, legal responsibilities, aids to navigation, rules of the road, charts and compass, engines, knots, weather, boat handling, radio procedures, and navigation electronics. Completion certificate helps reduce boat insurance fees. Families are welcome. Children age 12 and older are encouraged to attend with a parent at a reduced rate.
