    Backyard Birdsong Identification

    Have you ever wondered if that “tweet” is from a cardinal or a chickadee? Join this two-night class to learn the language spoken by our feathered friends. Our birding expert, Michele Grzenda, will start with a few basic bird songs as a reference, then add to your repertoire with repetition and practice. You’ll learn the types of sound birds make and why they make them, and explore common bird songs heard in MA. Each class will focus on approximately 10-15 different birds.

    Early Morning Bird Exploration

    Join Luke Faust, Member of the Sudbury Conservation Commission, for an early morning walk at Davis Farm and Field in Sudbury to discover the birds that frequent the varied habitats contained within these conservation areas. With a mix of meadows, wetlands, and forests, Davis Farm and Field is home to an inordinate number of avian species. Learn various field identification techniques to identify these species by sight as well as sound. All levels and experience welcome. Bring binoculars. Ample parking is available at Davis Field, 195 North Road, Sudbury.

    Do you want to gain a better understanding on exactly what social media is all about? This class will go over step by-step basics for Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter and YouTube. Common questions and insights on social media will be reviewed so that you're up to date on the latest buzz words and topics. Come and learn to share, search and connect and leave social media savvy as ever! No prior experience required. Please Note that the class recording will be sent to all registered students so that they do not have to attend at the exact designated time. Follow-up support is also included from the instructor and students are encouraged to reach out with questions at any time before or after the class has concluded.
  • Fairhaven History & Hike

    This course meets three times; two for Zoom slide lectures on May 8 and May 15, followed by an optional hike on May 18 (May 19 rain date). The first week will introduce the geography of the Fairhaven area, partly in Concord and partly in Lincoln, along the east side of the Sudbury River. Participants will learn about its literary associations, centering on Thoreau, illustrated with maps and photos from Herbert W. Gleason and others. The second week will pick up chronologically from there, with the histories of Fairhaven House and the Robinson sisters; Burnham, the estate of Charles Francis Adams, Jr., and the Bauhaus structures, still in place, designed by architect Quincy Adams. Incorporated throughout will be the ecology of the area, especially the mammals that use this habitat today, illustrated with photos and videos. The third meeting will be an optional round trip hike to Fairhaven Cliff.

    Have you ever wanted to learn how to fish? Now’s your chance, let the MassWildlife Angler Education Program be your guide. We’ll have equipment on hand for use, as well as terminal tackle, and live bait. You’ll learn the basics, from casting out to baiting up, and the best part - you’ll actually be able to fish. So come try your hand at this great pastime, guaranteed to catch some fun! Pre-registration is required. Please note: This is NOT a kid’s program. It is a program for people of all ages that want to learn how to fish. If you are 15 and younger you must be accompanied by an adult. Please complete ONE (1) registration per family (up to 5 people).
  • Fused Glass Workshop: Sushi Serving Set

    Learn the basics of glass fusing while having fun playing with glass shapes, colors, and textures. First learn how to use glass powders, frits, glass beads, and stringers. Then design and create your own sushi set, featuring two small plates and one large serving dish, perfect to serve sushi, cheese and crackers or desserts. Your instructor will fire your creations in his own kiln. They will be available at the Lincoln Sudbury within two weeks. Safety note: Students must wear closed toe shoes.   • Gropius House Tour

    Walter Gropius, founder of the German design school known as the Bauhaus, was one of the most influential architects of the 20th century. He designed this house in Lincoln as his family home in 1938, when he came to teach at Harvard's Graduate School of Design. Modest in scale, it combined the traditional elements of New England architecture with innovative materials rarely used in domestic settings at that time. Enjoy this one hour guided house tour where all the family possessions are still in place.

    Healthy Feet for Active People Exercise Workshop

    This exercise class is a follow-up to the Healthy Feet for Active Presentation on May 1. Learn how bad posture habits may contribute to your foot issues and get special postural exercises to improve your feet and your body alignment. As an additional bonus, you may even become more upright! Bring a yoga mat and a large bath towel. Exercises are done barefoot, socks are optional.

    Have an idea for a kitchen or bath remodel but need some insight? Local kitchen and bath designer Mary Regan will help you workshop your ideas. She’ll review your plans ahead of time, then help figure out next steps from lighting and cabinet types to countertop materials.     This class is meant to extend the knowledge of the game for Beginners who've learned how to play recently, or who've played before and remember the basics, and want to take their game up to the next level. In our 4 sessions together, you will learn techniques for picking hands throughout the game (during passing, early game, late game), playing defensively, switching hands, joker bait strategies, and how to score games, among other tips and tricks.
